One of the most important golf shots in any round is the drive from the tee. Driving sets up all the other shots necessary to shoot a low score. It’s very difficult to play well without driving the ball into the fairway.

While there are many different swing methods golfers use to drive the ball correctly, all employ the basic fundamentals that give the golfer the best chance to drive the ball well. These fundamentals include proper grip, stance and alignment to the target. Specific to driving, ball position is very important; the ball must be positioned in the stance slightly more forward than for other shots. This is because the ball must be struck slightly on the upswing so that the club face is at the optimal launch angle as the club head nears ball impact.

Good driving requires good rhythm and timing; a hurried, quick swing will surely cause a poor tee shot. A good swing thought for driving is to swing the club head back slow and slow and to start the club head down in an equally unhurried motion. This will give the golfer the timing and rhythm necessary to send the ball down the fairway.
